Kamilah Perry, a Stetson University College of Law alumna, has been elected a circuit judge in Florida’s Ninth Judicial Circuit.
Perry defeated Steve Kerestes. Her endorsements included Sen. LaVon Bracey Davis and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Ballotpedia reports.
“From the very bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who supported, encouraged, prayed for, and stood with me throughout this campaign. I am truly humbled and deeply grateful for every vote, every conversation, and every act of kindness,” Perry wrote in an Aug. 19 Facebook post. “I take the law very seriously and I do not take this opportunity lightly. I am grateful for the trust placed in me, and I am ready to get to work and serve our community with the highest level of integrity. Now the work begins.
She also congratulated Kerestes for running a “good and fair race.”
“Running is not easy and I commend him on a job well done. Thank you,” she wrote.

Perry currently serves as executive director and general counsel of the Ninth Circuit State Attorney’s Office and owns Perry Law Group, LLC. She previously led the George Edgecomb Bar Association and the Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter of the National Bar Association, and taught as an adjunct professor at FAMU Law. The Florida Super Lawyers Magazine named Perry a Florida Super Lawyer for six years from 2013- 2019 and one of their “Rising Stars” for five consecutive years, 2009-2013.
“Personal values should play no role in judicial decision-making, with the exception that all judges should certainly personally value being unbiased, fair, and impartial when making all decisions,” Perry told the Orlando Sentinel in July, when asked about the role of personal values in judicial decision making.
Perry is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
