Jude Bruno is breaking barriers as the new leader of the Florida Parent Teacher Association (PTA). For the first time in its 103-year history, the organization has elected a Black man, a Haitian American, and a millennial as its president. This historic moment happened earlier this month, starting a fresh chapter for child advocacy in Florida.

Bruno officially started his new role during the 2026 Florida PTA Leadership Convention. The event was held from July 9-12 at the Omni Orlando Resort. He will lead the group for two years, from 2026 to 2028.

Bruno grew up in Miami and went to public schools there. Today, he works as a union representative for United Teachers of Dade. He brings a lot of experience helping students and teachers to his new position.

Sharing his thoughts with the Florida Courier, which covers Black life news, Bruno said: "My journey with PTA began as an elementary school student, where I learned that leadership starts with service and every voice matters. To now serve as president of Florida PTA is both humbling and deeply meaningful. I hope my story reminds every student that today’s volunteer or student leader can become tomorrow’s leader."

He hopes that his story inspires today’s volunteer or student leader to become tomorrow’s leader.

He also told the Florida Courier about his goals: "As Florida’s educational landscape continues to evolve, PTA’s role has never been more important. Together, we will strengthen family engagement, support public education, and ensure every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.”
